An Eventful Winter

We have survived the ‘Great Ice Storm of 2009′. Our whole area lost power for several days. Red Cross came in after three days and set up a shelter. They put a request in for volunteers so we got involved. I was put over running the kitchen and Kenny was put in charge of scheduling the volunteers. It was a great opportunity for our church to show off God’s hands at work. The shelter only stayed open for two days but it gave us a chance to talk to people in our community. It’s amazing how it takes something drastic to meet your neighbors.

We personally lost power for 14 days. We actually left on the 14th morning, headed to Texas; we heard from our Pastor that the power came back on that night. But that was also when Kenny injured his ankle and we had to turn around.
We were getting ready to spend a week in Dallas so Kenny could help with At the Feet of Jesus Church. The Pastor of this church and Kenny will be going to the dominion republic in the next month or so. Kenny was going to interim for the Pastor while he made the first trip to the Dominican.
Kenny’s injured ankle turned out to be a second-degree sprain. So we had to cancel. Kenny was off of his feet for a week. Funny, this time last year, we spent my birthday and Valentine’s Day, this same time of year; in the hospital with Kenny’s nose bleed issue, some of you may remember. This year he was just on the couch of the home our church has provided for us; I’ll take it, no problem.

Just as he was getting around better. I came down with a stomach virus. I guess not being able to eat for three days is one way to lose weight but I wouldn’t recommend it. But Praise God we are both on the mend.

Our schedule for this year is forming slowly, especially with unforeseen illness and injury, which is a little scary for me. But I know God will show us His direction, we are both sensing it will be different from past years.

We have been trying to get by with odd jobs and selling stuff on eBay, like we usually do during Winter months. Now we are trying to get some bookings in churches, while still keeping some of that going. The quarterly newsletter will be out soon as we are finishing it up. As we get more details on Kenny’s trip to the Dominican Republic sometime this Spring we will pass them on. Meanwhile we are gathering support for his trip.

We want to thank all our supporters. We realize very well that times are uncertain when it comes to this economy. And it’s a snowball effect. But we know that this country’s real issue is Spiritual not financially. God has not forgotten His people. He will see us through these times.

This is a critical time for the church. We are praying God’s people will continue to move forward in their finances and continue to sow into God’s house and God’s work. It is needed more now than ever.
